Puppy Life-skills

for puppies under 7 months

4 weeks - 1.5 hour $200.00

PL-1 Wednesday May 8-29, 2024  7:00-8:30pm
PL-2 Wednesday June 5-26, 2024  7:00-8:30pm

A NEW PUPPY is a special addition to any household! Puppies, like human babies, do a lot of learning in their early months, especially when it comes to navigating their new environment and adopting good manners.

Puppyhood training comes down to two key components:

  1. Relationship building

  2. Creating structure

After all, once a loving and trusting bond exists, it’s much easier (and enjoyable) to teach your dog specific behaviors and commands, such as “drop it” and “heel.”

Our goals for Puppy Life Skills are:

  • Exposure to the environment

  • Impulse control

  • Polite play

  • Housetraining

  • Being alone

  • Recall

  • Loose Leash walking

  • Sit, down, drop it

This is just a small example of the skills covered but they are all taught using positive, reward-based training methods. The main underlying theme of all of the classes, regardless of the level, is building a happy, positive relationship between you and your dog.

We also encourage you to ask questions. To ensure success we always suggest that you work with your puppy in small steps, to give them the best possible chance of getting the behavior right, and therefore gaining a reward. If we set them too difficult a challenge, and they fail, and continue to fail, they will become de-motivated and lose all interest in us and our attempts to work with them. Because of this, we always suggest that you set yourself and your puppy small and achievable goals.

We will work towards earning the AKC (American Kennel Club) Puppy STAR.

You will work in a small VIRTUAL class with one of our experienced trainers who can give you the best advice specific to your goals.
